The staff at Thrive Community Services have been moving back in this week into The Hub, located at 143 E Main St. in Galesburg. The Hub has been closed since February 19, when a fire broke out in an adjacent building. The fire did enough damage to warrant the building being demolished. Now that demolition is complete, the building has been assessed for safety and is now open.
“We are excited to be back in downtown Galesburg. Our participants are in integral part of the community and having a space downtown creates opportunities for community engagement.” States Pam Green, CEO of Thrive Community Services. The Hub is operated by Thrive Community Services, which provides community day services for our community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The employment services program for Thrive is based at the Hub. Participants who are seeking employment can receive assistance completing applications, practicing for interviews and receive job coaching.
The Hub is also home to the SOAR respite program. SOAR group respite is offered to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities ages 5 and up. During these times, individuals have the opportunity to engage with peers, participate in fun activities, and build upon their social skills. At the same time, caregivers benefit from the time they get to run errands, meet with friends, care for other family members, or simply partake in necessary self-care. Dinner is included and is made possible through funding from the 708 Mental Health Board.
Originally opened in February 2020, The Hub is known for being a space which local agencies can hold meetings or activities. “I’ve been calling community partners who hold meetings in the space and they are glad to hear the Hub is open,” shares Joyce Friichtenicht, Senior Director of Community & Employment Services.
The parking lot behind the building is not currently available. To find out more information about the Hub, go to thrivegalesburg.org/the-hub or contact Joyce Friichtenicht at 309-344-2600 ext 1600.
